Obituary of David J. Barnes
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David J. Barnes of Lockport, NY who passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026 at the age of 72.
Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose love for his family was the center of his life. He was known for his kind heart, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
A lifelong racing enthusiast, the racetrack was one of his favorite places to be. Whether he was watching the races, sharing stories, or talking about the sport he loved, racing brought him immense joy. But even more than racing, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He took great pride in being their grandfather and created countless memories that they will carry with them forever.
To his family, he was more than a grandfather—he was a mentor, a storyteller, a source of strength, and a best friend. His love, guidance, and presence shaped the lives of those around him in immeasurable ways.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia J. Barnes(Rice), His beloved children, Melissa(Daniel) Horner, David(Dee) Barnes and Claudine(Ronnie) Folmar. His beloved Grandchildren Felicity (Chris) Barnes, Mersadies(Dylan) Barnes, Victoria(Cameron) BarnesSmith, Sara( Dylan) Smith, Nicole Robertson, Cameron Robertson, Connor Robertson, Destiny(Bryce) Cooper, Matthew Folmar, Nolan Barnes, Abigail Pursey, and Danell Corrieri. He was predeceased by his parents John and Elizabeth Barnes, his two siblings Thomas Barnes and Patricia (Bill) Wolfe, beloved daughter Stephanie and father in law Claude Rice.
Though our hearts are broken, his legacy will live on through his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
